Coral Springs

Skip Coral Springs as a base unless you have a car and a reason (family, golf, a Broward suburb stay): 1 night, or a half-day for the nature center.

Coral Springs is a planned Broward County suburb chartered in 1963, about 30 minutes from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) and 45–60 minutes from Miami or West Palm Beach by car. It has no beach and no big-ticket sightline: the draws are parks, the Sawgrass Nature Center, a performing-arts hall and cheaper suburban hotels. Come with a car, for one night or as a family base, and treat the beach towns as day trips.

  • North America ↗Crossing between the US, Canada and Mexico by land needs your passport even on a day trip; rental cars need the company's written permission to cross, and most US and Canadian rental insurance stops at the Mexican border.
  • North America ↗Cannabis is legal in Canada and in many US states, but taking any amount across the US, Canadian or Mexican border is a federal crime — including edibles and vapes.
  • North America ↗The busiest US and Canadian national parks need timed-entry, campsite or lodge reservations in summer; release dates are months ahead.
  • United States ↗Check whether you need an ESTA (Visa Waiver Program) or a visa on the official CBP and State Department sites; apply only through esta.cbp.dhs.gov, not third-party sites, and allow time before you book.
  • United States ↗Several popular national parks use timed-entry or vehicle reservations in peak season; check each park's page on nps.gov and book on recreation.gov before fixing your dates.
  • United States ↗Medical care is very expensive for visitors; buy travel insurance with high medical cover before you fly.
  • United States ↗Tipping is expected: about 15–20% at sit-down restaurants and bars, and a tip for taxis, hotel staff and guides.

Arrive & move

Getting around

A car is the only practical way to move around Coral Springs and Broward County. The city sits on a grid and is easy to drive; I-75, I-95, I-595, US 441, Florida's Turnpike and the Sawgrass Expressway (SR 869) link it to the rest of South Florida. Broward County Transit (BCT) buses run county routes but are slow for sightseeing; taxis and rideshare work but add up. Renting away from the airport is often cheaper.

Watch out

Safety

Coral Springs is a low-crime, well-lit suburb and feels safe for tourists. The real risks are driving (wide fast roads, I-95 traffic), summer heat and storms, and hurricane season Jun–Nov.
  • No beach in Coral Springs: the nearest sand is Deerfield Beach or Pompano Beach, 20–30 min east by car.
  • Summer heat and humidity plus daily afternoon thunderstorms; plan indoor stops midday.
  • Hurricane season runs Jun–Nov, peaking Sep–Nov: watch forecasts and know your hotel's policy.
  • Suburban roads are wide and fast; jaywalking and unlit crossings are a real risk at night.
  • All ten digits are needed for local calls; area codes 954 and 754.
