Half a day is enough: see the 9th-century palace ruins and the 18th-century mosque, then move on to Rangpur or Saidpur. Not a base.
Nilphamari is a small commercial town in northwestern Bangladesh, best known for its early-medieval palace and fort ruins. The main sights can be covered in a few hours, and most travellers use it as a stop between Rangpur and Saidpur or on a day trip from Dinajpur.
