Invermere sits on the north end of Lake Windermere, between the Rockies and the Purcells, about 3,400 people and a summer lake town that turns into a ski base in winter. It is a base, not a checklist: the lake, Panorama Mountain Resort 14 km west, golf, and the hot springs at Radium and Fairmont. Two nights covers the core; three if you ski or ride.

Getting around

The centre is walkable, but the town spreads out and the lake, Panorama and the golf courses are not. A car is the practical choice. BC Transit's Columbia Valley system runs Monday–Friday between Invermere and Edgewater (with a Radium Hot Springs stop) and between Invermere and Fairmont Hot Springs. A separate BC Transit Health Connections bus links Golden and Cranbrook via Invermere twice a week, booked at least 24 h ahead.

Safety

Invermere is a small, low-crime resort town; the real risks are outdoors — bears on trails, cold lake water, winter roads and fast-changing mountain weather. Carry bear spray, tell someone your route, and check DriveBC before driving the passes.
  • Off-season (roughly Apr–May and Oct–Nov) closes restaurants and attractions: check before you book.
  • You share the woods with bears: carry bear spray and make noise on trails.
  • Windermere Lake Provincial Park has no facilities and no public access; do not plan a beach day there.
  • Winter driving on Highway 93/95 can be icy; check DriveBC before the pass.
