- North America ↗Crossing between the US, Canada and Mexico by land needs your passport even on a day trip; rental cars need the company's written permission to cross, and most US and Canadian rental insurance stops at the Mexican border.
- North America ↗Cannabis is legal in Canada and in many US states, but taking any amount across the US, Canadian or Mexican border is a federal crime — including edibles and vapes.
- North America ↗The busiest US and Canadian national parks need timed-entry, campsite or lodge reservations in summer; release dates are months ahead.
- United States ↗Check whether you need an ESTA (Visa Waiver Program) or a visa on the official CBP and State Department sites; apply only through esta.cbp.dhs.gov, not third-party sites, and allow time before you book.
- United States ↗Several popular national parks use timed-entry or vehicle reservations in peak season; check each park's page on nps.gov and book on recreation.gov before fixing your dates.
- United States ↗Medical care is very expensive for visitors; buy travel insurance with high medical cover before you fly.
- United States ↗Tipping is expected: about 15–20% at sit-down restaurants and bars, and a tip for taxis, hotel staff and guides.
Cupertino is a residential tech suburb at the south end of San Francisco Bay, home to Apple's two campuses and a large Chinese-American community. There is no main street and no walkable centre: most businesses sit in strip malls along De Anza and Stevens Creek Boulevards. Treat it as a half-day or one-night stop inside a wider South Bay trip, not a destination on its own.

Arrive & move

Getting around
A car is the practical choice: De Anza Blvd runs north–south, Stevens Creek Blvd east–west, and Highways 85 and 280 cross the city. VTA buses serve the main corridors but run infrequently and rarely door to door; expect 30–50 min for trips a car does in 10. Streets have bike lanes and biking on the flat grid is reasonably safe. Rideshare is easy to hail but fares spike at commute hours.

Safety
- Almost nothing is walkable: plan each stop by car or rideshare, not on foot.
- Apple Park itself is fenced and screened by trees and a mound; only the Visitor Center on the east side is open to the public.
- Check for ticks after hiking in the foothills; Bay Area Lyme disease rates are high. See a doctor if a bull's-eye rash appears.
- Mountain lions have been reported in the western foothills; hike in daylight and keep children close.
- Obey traffic laws: enforcement on local streets is active and fines are steep.
- Summer afternoons inland regularly pass 30 °C; carry water on any hike.Summer afternoons inland regularly pass 86 °F; carry water on any hike.
