Yangju is a northern Gyeonggi city of about 280,000 people, mostly mountains and military land, with no real hotel district and thin transport. Its draw is a cluster of valleys, royal tombs and small museums around Jangheung-myeon, reachable by subway Line 1 plus a bus or taxi. Most travellers come for a single day from Seoul and leave the same evening.

Getting around
Line 1 stops at Yangju, Deokgye and Deokjeong. Local buses link the stations to Jangheung-myeon, but service is sparse and taxis are hard to flag even on apps. A car or a taxi booked for the day is the only efficient way to see several sights.

Watch out
Safety
- Large areas are military land; some sites (Ganapri airfield, drone festival) need ID and open only on event days.
- Buses to the valleys run few times a day; check the last return before you set out.
- Taxis are scarce and fares are high for Gyeonggi; book a return or keep a taxi number.
- Several museums close on Mondays; royal tombs close Mondays too.
- Cash-only is common at small valley restaurants.
