Give Summerside one night as a west-PEI base: waterfront boardwalk, fox museum, lobster carnival in July. Two nights only if you day-trip the Acadian coast.
Summerside is PEI's second city (about 14,700 people) and the service base for the island's west half. It is a working harbour town, not a resort: the draw is a rebuilt waterfront boardwalk, two small museums, harness racing and the July Lobster Carnival. Most travellers pass through on Route 2 between Charlottetown and the Confederation Bridge, or sleep here to cut driving on a west-island loop.

Getting around
The centre is walkable in 15–20 minutes end to end. For anything outside it you need a car: PEI has no useful local bus network, and the Maritime Bus intercity route only links Summerside with Borden (about 30 min) and onward connections. Taxis (Courtesy Cab, Old Town Taxi) cover short hops; agree the fare or check the meter.
