Give Mystic one full day plus a night: Seaport and Aquarium fill a day, downtown is a 2-hour walk. Skip it as a base — sleep here only if you want the river at dawn.
Mystic is a small Connecticut village split between Groton and Stonington, about halfway between New York and Boston on the Amtrak Northeast Corridor. Two paid attractions — Mystic Seaport and Mystic Aquarium — plus a compact downtown on the Mystic River carry a full day. Most travellers pass through on the train or stop for one night en route between the two big cities. It is not a multi-day destination unless you add the casino, the beaches or the cider mill.

Getting around
A car is the easiest way: I-95 exit 90 (Route 27) serves the attractions, exit 89 downtown. Downtown itself is walkable in 15 minutes end to end. Amtrak's Mystic station (MYS) is on Route 1, about a 10-minute walk from the drawbridge. Local buses are limited — check schedules before relying on them.
