Lancaster sits in the high Mojave of far northern Los Angeles County, about 110 km north of downtown LA on Highway 14 and the end of Metrolink's Antelope Valley Line. It is a desert city of about 157,000 people with a walkable downtown boulevard, two free museums, a poppy reserve east of town and a musical road. Most travellers pass through on the way to or from Los Angeles, or use it as a cheap bed base for the Antelope Valley. Two nights covers the city; one night plus a poppy-season day trip is the common shape.

Getting around
A car is the honest answer: sights sit 5–15 km apart and the poppy reserve is 24 km east. Antelope Valley Transit Authority buses run local routes with a low one-way fare and a day pass (check current fares); Metrolink's Antelope Valley Line ends at Lancaster station, 44812 Sierra Hwy, with roughly hourly trains to LA Union Station. Rideshare works in town but is thin after about 22:00.
