Geyikli is a small coastal village on the Troad Peninsula, 50 km south of Çanakkale, best known as the ferry port for Bozcaada island. The beach strip south through Odunluk İskelesi to Dalyan has holiday homes and small hotels, and the area holds scattered antiquities including Alexandria Troas. Most travellers use it as a one-night stop or a ferry launch point, not a destination in itself.

Getting around

You need your own wheels to reach the scattered sights. Roads from Geyikli to the coast are fairly good; the road south to Alexandria Troas is narrow and potholed but passable by a standard car. Sporadic dolmuşes run to Geyikli village centre, where waits can be long — hitching is common.

Watch out

Safety

Geyikli is a small, low-crime village and the main risks are practical: no winter bus service, long dolmuş waits, and a narrow potholed road to Alexandria Troas. Carry lira in small notes and keep to the marked beach areas.
  • Summer buses from Çanakkale run via Geyikli to the ferry pier; there is no winter service, though you may find a dolmuş.
  • Buses from İzmir stop at Ezine, where you transfer to a dolmuş; Ezine has little accommodation, so if it is late, continue to Çanakkale and double back.
  • The thermal baths at Alexandria Troas have closed down.
  • The road to Alexandria Troas is narrow and potholed; a standard family car is fine but take it slow.
  • Orhaniye Bastion is a picnic spot but is trash-strewn.
  • 4G signal covers the town, coast and approach roads; 5G has not reached the area.
