Mineral de Pozos is a silver-mining town in Guanajuato that emptied out three times and now holds about 2,600 people, a 17th-century parish church and a ring of ruined haciendas on its edge. It is a Pueblo Mágico, so weekends bring crowds from Mexico City and San Miguel de Allende while most restaurants and two of the haciendas shut Monday to Thursday. One night covers the town on foot; two nights let you add a mine tour and a lavender farm without rushing. It is a walking town with no Uber and no taxi rank, so plan arrivals and departures around a booked driver.

Getting around

Walk. The centre is small and flat enough for an evening loop. Bike rental is available in town for the outskirts, and ATVs are rented at the Centenario Mine. There is no Uber and no taxi rank: ask your hotel to call a driver, and agree the fare before you get in.

Safety

The town itself is calm and walkable; the real risks are unlit mine shafts and uneven ruin ground, cold nights, and unmarked fares with the few drivers who serve the town. Agree the price before you ride.
  • Most restaurants and several sights close Monday–Thursday; check before you build a plan around them.
  • No Uber and no taxi sitio: arrange every ride through your hotel or a pre-booked driver.
  • Mine tours at the haciendas are usually Spanish-only; the ground is uneven and unlit in places.
  • Nights are cold at about 2,000 (≈ US$110) m even in the warm months; bring a jacket.
  • Cash matters: some bars and small places take no cards.
