  • North America ↗Crossing between the US, Canada and Mexico by land needs your passport even on a day trip; rental cars need the company's written permission to cross, and most US and Canadian rental insurance stops at the Mexican border.
  • North America ↗Cannabis is legal in Canada and in many US states, but taking any amount across the US, Canadian or Mexican border is a federal crime — including edibles and vapes.
  • North America ↗The busiest US and Canadian national parks need timed-entry, campsite or lodge reservations in summer; release dates are months ahead.
  • United States ↗Check whether you need an ESTA (Visa Waiver Program) or a visa on the official CBP and State Department sites; apply only through esta.cbp.dhs.gov, not third-party sites, and allow time before you book.
  • United States ↗Several popular national parks use timed-entry or vehicle reservations in peak season; check each park's page on nps.gov and book on recreation.gov before fixing your dates.
  • United States ↗Medical care is very expensive for visitors; buy travel insurance with high medical cover before you fly.
  • United States ↗Tipping is expected: about 15–20% at sit-down restaurants and bars, and a tip for taxis, hotel staff and guides.

Arlington is a car-only city of about 400,000 between Dallas and Fort Worth, with no public bus or rail network of its own. Its pull is three big venues on one stretch of I-30: AT&T Stadium (Dallas Cowboys, and a 2026 FIFA World Cup host), Globe Life Field (Texas Rangers) and Six Flags Over Texas with Hurricane Harbor next door. Sights are spread out, downtown is small, and almost every trip here is built around an event ticket.

Arrive & move

Airports are listed under At a glance; this is how to move once you are in

Getting around

Assume a car. Arlington runs no fixed-route bus or rail system; the city's Arlington On-Demand rideshare service and Uber/Lyft cover short hops, and a free Arlington Trolley links participating hotels with the stadiums, Six Flags and downtown (pass from your front desk). Trinity Railway Express stops at CentrePort/DFW Airport just outside the north city limit, but you still need a car or rideshare from there. On Cowboys, Rangers or World Cup match days, traffic on I-30 and Hwy 360 backs up for hours: arrive early or take rideshare.

Where to sleep

Areas, not hotels: pick the one that fits your arrival time and plans.

Cheaper chain hotels along Collins St and Road to Six Flags; 10–15 min drive to the stadiums.

South Arlington (I-20 at Cooper St)

The Parks Mall and Arlington Highlands shopping; quiet, family hotels, 20 min to the venues.

Downtown Arlington

Small cluster near the UT Arlington campus, museum and music hall; limited hotels, few late-night options.

Watch out

Safety

Arlington is generally safe for visitors, and the stadium and mall districts are busy and well lit. The main risks are event-night traffic, summer heat and walking alone after dark east of Hwy 360 or on the edges of the UT Arlington campus.
  • No public transit: budget for rideshares or a rental car, and never plan to walk between the stadiums and a distant hotel.
  • Event-day surge pricing: hotel rooms and rideshares near AT&T Stadium can double on game and concert weekends.
  • Summer heat: July–August afternoons regularly pass 35 °C; theme-park days need water and shade breaks.
  • Stadium rules: clear-bag policies and security screening apply at AT&T Stadium and Globe Life Field — check the venue site before you go.
  • Some blocks east of Hwy 360 and around the UT Arlington campus edges are best avoided on foot after dark.
