Walnut Grove
Go for half a day, not a night: the Chinese-American and Japanese-American districts plus Locke take 2–3 hours on foot. Sleep in Sacramento or Isleton.
Walnut Grove is a small Sacramento River Delta town whose draw is three preserved ethnic districts — its own Chinese-American and Japanese-American blocks and neighbouring Locke — listed on the National Register of Historic Places. There is no hotel in town, so most visitors come as a half-day stop on the River Road (CA-160) between Sacramento and the Delta.
