Antioch is one of California's oldest towns, founded in 1850 on the San Joaquin River, and now a sprawled suburb at the end of the BART Yellow Line. Almost nothing is walkable from the station, so a car or a bus connection decides your day. Treat it as a cheap bed for the Outer East Bay, or a half-day stop for the Delta shoreline and the Black Diamond Mines hills.

Getting around
A car is the default: Highway 4 is the spine and jams at commute hours. BART ends at Antioch station, 1600 Slatten Ranch Rd, which is far from the sights — plan a bus, taxi or pickup. Tri-Delta Transit runs local buses, mostly slow and circuitous; County Connection 930 goes to Walnut Creek. Uber and Lyft operate; taxis must be called, not hailed.
