Half a day is enough: visit the Northern Song Imperial Tombs, then move on to Zhengzhou or Luoyang. Not a base.
Gongyi is a county-level city under Zhengzhou, best known for the Northern Song Dynasty Imperial Tombs — a free, open-air site with the remains of seven emperors. The city has little else for a tourist, so most travellers stop for a few hours on the way between Zhengzhou and Luoyang.
