Use an eSIM with roaming (it routes through your home network) or install and test a VPN before you fly; VPN sites and app stores are hard to reach inside China, and only government-approved VPNs are officially permitted.

Longquanyi is a district on the eastern edge of Chengdu, not a city of its own. It is the gateway to the Longquan Mountain ridge, a Hakka old town at Luodai, a Tang-founded mountain temple, and the Ming Shu royal tombs. Most travellers come for a single day from Chengdu on Metro Line 2; a night here only makes sense if you want the ridge at dawn or you are working the auto plants.

Getting around

Metro Line 2 runs from central Chengdu to Longquanyi station in about 40–50 min. Inside the district, buses and taxis fill the gaps; the ridge sights (Shijing Temple, Peach Blossom Hometown, the Golden Dragon Wall) are 10–20 km apart and are much easier with a taxi or a hired car.

Safety

Ordinary suburban Chengdu: low street crime, heavy traffic on the ridge roads, and the main real risks are summer heat, exposed trails and unlit lanes in Luodai after dark.
  • This is a district of Chengdu, not a separate city: do not book it as a stand-alone destination.
  • The ridge sights are 10–20 km apart with limited buses; budget for taxis or a car.
  • Peach blossom season (roughly March) draws Chengdu crowds to the ridge roads: go early or skip the weekend.
  • Summer is hot and wet; the ridge paths are exposed.
  • Some temple and tomb sites close earlier than posted in low season: check before you travel out.
