Levi is one of Finland's largest winter-sport resorts, built around the fell of the same name in Kittilä municipality, Lapland. The village of Sirkka holds most beds, lifts and nightlife, and Kittilä airport is 10 km south. Winter runs roughly November to May for skiing; summer is quiet but open for hiking and golf (check). Book early: Christmas, New Year, Easter and the Finnish winter holiday (mid-February to early March) sell out.

Getting around

The village centre is walkable and skiable. The Ski Bus (routes R1 and R2) runs November–May; a day ticket bought at ZeroPoint costs about €4, and a single ride on board about €4. A Ski Bus day pass is included with the ski lift pass for about €3/day. Taxis and apps cover the rest; a car helps for cottages away from the centre.

Safety

Levi is a safe resort town; the real risks are winter: ice on paths and roads, cold exposure, and snowmobile or lake-ice accidents. Tell someone your route, carry a charged phone and dress in layers.
  • Peak weeks (Christmas, New Year, Easter, mid-Feb to early Mar) sell out and prices spike: book months ahead.
  • Winter roads and paths are icy; use studded shoes or grips.
  • Snowmobile driving needs a licence on routes and a paid permit on tracks; minimum age 15, sober, helmet on.
  • Never walk on frozen lakes or rivers without local advice.
  • Alcohol sales hours in shops vary and are restricted on Sundays: check locally.
