Chandipur is a small beach village on Odisha's north coast, about 12 km from Balasore and roughly 17 km from its railhead. The draw is the tide: the water recedes several kilometres at low tide and returns at high tide, so the beach changes shape twice a day. There is almost nothing else to see, which is why one night covers it and two nights is a slow, cheap rest stop between Kolkata and Bhubaneswar or Puri. Book around the tide table, not the calendar.

Safety

Low-risk for a beach village: the real hazards are the fast-returning tide, unlit roads after dark, and missile-test closures. Women travellers report stares on the beach; cover up away from the sand and do not walk the Balasore road at night.
  • The Integrated Test Range is a live missile-testing site: launches can close roads and the beach at short notice. Ask locally before you plan a beach day.
  • The sea here is tidal and shallow, not a swimming beach; the water can be far out and come back fast.
  • Sea prawns are cheap and popular but a common allergen: start small if you have not eaten them before.
  • Alcohol is not reliably sold locally; Odisha has dry days, so check before you count on it.
  • Beach-strip hotels are basic for the price; inspect the room before paying.
