Give Saltillo one full day: colonial centre on foot in the morning, Museo del Desierto in the afternoon. Two nights if you add the mountains.
Saltillo is the capital of Coahuila and a colonial city on the old Camino Real, now a government, university and manufacturing centre about an hour west of Monterrey. The historic centre is compact and walkable; the two big museums sit outside it. Most travellers pass through on the Monterrey–San Luis Potosí corridor, and one night plus a full day covers the city well.

Getting around
The centro histórico is small enough to walk. DiDi, Uber and inDriver all operate in the city; taxis wait at the main plaza and the bus station, so agree the fare before you get in. Local buses marked Periférico link the bus station with the centre, and the TranVía trolley does a hop-on hop-off loop downtown (not on Mondays).
