Port Orange is a residential city of about 56,000 people between Daytona Beach and New Smyrna Beach, with no commercial downtown and no beach of its own. It works as a car-based, lower-cost base for the Dunlawton Avenue corridor, the Lighthouse Loop drive and the Ponce Inlet lighthouse, 15–25 minutes away. Without a car it is a poor base: buses run Monday–Saturday only and stop in the early evening.

Getting around
A car is close to essential: sights, beaches and the airport are spread along I-95, US-1 and Dunlawton Avenue. Votran buses run Monday–Saturday roughly 7:00–19:00, $1.75 a trip or $3.75 for a one-day pass valid on all routes. Traffic is heavy on Dunlawton Avenue in the afternoon and slow on US-1. Rideshare exists but waits can be long outside the Dunlawton corridor.
