Globe is a 1875 copper-and-silver town on US 60, about 1.5 hours east of Phoenix, with a reconstructed Salado pueblo, a walkable historic downtown and some of the better Mexican food in Arizona. It works as a one-night stop between Phoenix and the White Mountains, not as a destination on its own.

Watch out

Safety

Globe is a small town and violent crime is not the main worry; the real risks are summer heat, long empty drives and unlit roads at night. Lock the car and keep water in it.
  • Summer afternoons above 38 °C: do the pueblo and mine sites before 11:00.
  • Copper Hill is reached by a 3-mile dirt road; a low-clearance car is a risk after rain.
  • Cell coverage drops quickly once you leave US 60 toward the forest.
  • Distances between towns are long: fill the tank in Globe before heading east.
