Nabran

Nabran is a summer-only beach resort: go June–September for swimming and nightlife, skip the rest of the year when everything is closed.

Nabran is a 45 km stretch of Caspian coast near the Russian border, packed with beach clubs, discos and guesthouses that operate only from June to September. Outside summer it is a ghost town. A weekend or a long week is enough: swim, eat at roadside stands, dance until 04:00.

  • Caucasus ↗The Armenia–Azerbaijan and Armenia–Türkiye land borders are closed; any route that crosses them is not a route, however short it looks.
  • Caucasus ↗Georgia treats entry to Abkhazia or South Ossetia from Russia as illegal; entering that way can mean arrest or a ban when you next reach Georgia proper.
  • Azerbaijan ↗Apply for the e-visa only on the official portal (ASAN Visa); lookalike sites charge extra.
  • Azerbaijan ↗Azerbaijan's land border with Armenia is closed to ordinary travellers, and several governments advise against travel near it and in the former conflict areas because of mines and military zones. Read your own government's current advice before you book anything outside Baku and Absheron.
  • Azerbaijan ↗Do not photograph military sites, government buildings or oil and gas installations; drones need a permit.

Watch out

Safety

Nabran is safe for tourists; watch for mosquitoes and avoid drinking Caspian seawater. At night, stick to well-lit areas near the clubs.
  • Mosquitoes are active at dusk; bring repellent.
  • The Caspian Sea is polluted; do not swallow the water.
  • Weekend crowds from Baku double the population; expect noise and higher prices.
  • Most places close from October to May; confirm opening before travelling.
