Skip Avondale as a base unless you have a car and a race date: it is a 20–30 min drive west of Phoenix with motels, parks and Phoenix Raceway.
Avondale is a West Valley suburb of Greater Phoenix, incorporated in 1946 and home to roughly 88,000 people. Almost everything here needs a car: the draw is Phoenix Raceway, Estrella Mountain Regional Park and cheap chain hotels on the I-10 corridor. Most travellers sleep in Phoenix or Scottsdale and drive out for a race or a hike.
