Ayia Napa sits at the far east end of the Republic of Cyprus, about 45 minutes by road from Larnaca airport. It is the island's club capital, but the same coast holds some of its best sand: Nissi, Makronissos, Konnos and the sea caves at Cape Greco. The town itself is small and walkable; the wider coast needs a car, bus or taxi. Most visitors come for two or three nights of beach by day and the square after 23:00.

Getting around

The centre is walkable in 15–20 minutes end to end. Buses link the centre, Nissi Beach, Protaras and Paralimni; a car or taxi is easier for Cape Greco, Konnos and Makronissos. Bicycles and mopeds are widely rented — mopeds only if you are a confident rider. Taxis are metered; agree the fare before you set off if the meter stays off.

Watch out

Safety

Ayia Napa is a low-crime resort and the square is heavily policed in summer. The real risks are heat, drink, water sports and unlicensed taxis: stick to marked swim zones, never drive after drinking, and agree taxi fares first.
  • Club and bar promo staff on the square are persistent and may physically stop you; a polite no is enough.
  • Drink prices in clubs can be far above bar prices, and entry fees vary by night: ask before you go in.
  • Do not drive after drinking; local limits are strict and checks are common in summer.
  • Swim only inside the marked swimming zones — powerboats and water-sports craft use the same bays.
  • Sunbeds and umbrellas are municipal and cost a few euro per item per day; in July–August arrive before 10:00.
  • Summer heat peaks above 35°C; plan beach time before 11:00 and after 16:00.
