Yamachiche
Give Yamachiche half a day, not a night: walk the rue Sainte-Anne heritage row, then the Pointe Yamachiche bird reserve. Sleep in Trois-Rivières or Louiseville.
Yamachiche is a village of about 2,800 people on the north shore of Lac Saint-Pierre, 25 km west of Trois-Rivières on the Chemin du Roy. It is a Quebec Relay Village: a leg-stretch stop with a compact red-brick heritage row, a riverside bird reserve on a Ramsar wetland, a winery, a microbrewery and a wild-boar farm. Two to three hours covers the village; add the reserve and you have a half day. Almost nobody sleeps here, and that is the honest answer.

Getting around
You need a car. Autoroute 40 has three interchanges for Yamachiche, and Route 138 (Chemin du Roy) runs through the village; Route 153 heads north to Shawinigan. The village core is walkable in 10–15 minutes end to end. Express Bleu (CTC Maskinongé) runs from the Cégep in Trois-Rivières on weekdays only, roughly 07:55, 11:55 and 17:55, arriving 30–40 min later at Porte de la Mauricie, the town hall and the Shell station on rue Sainte-Anne; fare about $6, under-6s free (check current timetable and fare).

Safety
- Weekday-only bus: no weekend service on Express Bleu, so a car or a taxi is the fallback.
- The Pointe Yamachiche reserve is a wetland: mosquitoes in June–July, and the footbridge and paths can flood in spring.
- Most village businesses keep short hours and some close in winter; call before driving out for the winery or the brewery.
- Lac Saint-Pierre is shallow and the shoreline is soft mud in places: stay on marked paths.
