Potiskum is a trading city of about 483,000 people in Yobe State, northeastern Nigeria, built on livestock and grain. Its draw is the Tike cattle market, one of the largest in West Africa, plus the emir's palace and the working markets around it. There is no airport and no tourism infrastructure, so treat it as a business or family-visit stop, not a holiday base.

Shared buses and tricycles run the main roads; tell the driver your stop and remind him as you go, because stops are not announced. For the cattle and grain markets on the Maiduguri–Potiskum road, a hired car or keke by the hour is simpler than piecing together shared rides. Fuel up in town before any run out of the city.
