Yorkton is a city of about 16,000 people in East Central Saskatchewan, 190 km northeast of Regina on Highway 10 and 330 km southeast of Saskatoon on Highway 16. It grew as a settlers' colony on the Little Whitesand River and later moved to the rail line; today it serves the surrounding farmland. Sights are few and close together, so a single night covers the centre, and a second night only pays off if you are here for a festival or a golf weekend.

Getting around

The city is small and flat; downtown to the Gallagher Centre is about a 25-minute walk. Yorkton Community Dial-a-Bus runs two routes on demand, Mon–Fri 7:00–19:00 and Sat 9:00–16:00, with downtown departures on the hour and half hour (check fares and booking). Taxis: Redline, York City and G & M. A car is the practical choice for the regional parks and golf courses.
