RosemontRosemont, Illinois

Base here only for an O'Hare layover, a convention or an arena show: 1 night, then move into Chicago on the Blue Line.

Rosemont is a village of about 4,200 people that functions as O'Hare's hotel and events district: roughly 15 hotels, a 19,000-seat arena, a 4,300-seat theatre and a big convention centre, all within a few blocks. There is almost no sightseeing. You stay here to sleep near a flight, work a trade show or catch a concert, and you ride the CTA Blue Line into Chicago when you want the city.

  • North America ↗Crossing between the US, Canada and Mexico by land needs your passport even on a day trip; rental cars need the company's written permission to cross, and most US and Canadian rental insurance stops at the Mexican border.
  • North America ↗Cannabis is legal in Canada and in many US states, but taking any amount across the US, Canadian or Mexican border is a federal crime — including edibles and vapes.
  • North America ↗The busiest US and Canadian national parks need timed-entry, campsite or lodge reservations in summer; release dates are months ahead.
  • United States ↗Check whether you need an ESTA (Visa Waiver Program) or a visa on the official CBP and State Department sites; apply only through esta.cbp.dhs.gov, not third-party sites, and allow time before you book.
  • United States ↗Several popular national parks use timed-entry or vehicle reservations in peak season; check each park's page on nps.gov and book on recreation.gov before fixing your dates.
  • United States ↗Medical care is very expensive for visitors; buy travel insurance with high medical cover before you fly.
  • United States ↗Tipping is expected: about 15–20% at sit-down restaurants and bars, and a tip for taxis, hotel staff and guides.

Getting around

Walk or use the free Pace 811 Entertainment Circulator between hotels, the outlets, the arena and the convention centre. The CTA Blue Line runs 24 hours to O'Hare and to downtown Chicago (about 35–45 min to the Loop). Metra's North Central Line stops at Rosemont on weekdays. For anything outside this strip, a car is easier than the bus.

Restaurants and bars at the door, but the noisiest option on a concert night.

Watch out

Safety

Rosemont is a low-crime, well-lit hotel district and safe to walk at night along River Road and Parkway Bank Park. The real risks are winter driving, event-night crowds and O'Hare delays, not street crime.
  • Hotel rates spike hard during conventions, Midwest FurFest (late Nov–early Dec) and Anime Central (May): book weeks ahead or the whole village sells out.
  • Arena and theatre event nights fill the Parkway Bank Park car parks and restaurants; arrive 60–90 min early or eat elsewhere.
  • Winter snow can delay O'Hare flights for hours; keep a buffer before a connection.
  • Prices are quoted before Illinois sales tax and hotel tax, which add roughly 12–17% to a room bill.
