Barkur
Spend a half‑day exploring the ruins and temples on foot, then return to Udupi or Brahmavara for food and lodging.
Barkur is a small historic town on the north bank of the Sita River, once the capital of Tulunad. Its main attractions – the ruined fort and a cluster of ancient temples – lie within a 2 km radius and can be walked in a few hours. With limited accommodation, most visitors treat it as a day‑trip from Udupi (18 km) or Brahmavara (4 km).

- India ↗Carry Indian rupees in small notes (10, 20, 50, 100); change for 500 is often refused.
- India ↗Parts of the Northeast, Sikkim, Ladakh, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and all border belts need a Protected or Restricted Area Permit or an Inner Line Permit for foreigners; check before you book the route.
