Palm Beach, Aruba

Two to three nights on the Palm Beach strip is enough for the beach, water sports and easy day trips; most visitors use it as their only base for 5–7 nights.

Palm Beach is Aruba's main resort strip: two miles of white sand, calm water, high-rise hotels, beach bars and water-sports piers. It is the default base for a first trip, with easy access to Eagle Beach, Oranjestad and Arikok National Park. The beach itself is a half-day activity; the area works best as a home base for 5–7 nights.

  • Caribbean ↗Several islands (Turks and Caicos above all, also the Bahamas and Jamaica) jail visitors for a single stray bullet or cartridge in their luggage; empty every bag and pocket before you pack.
  • Caribbean ↗From August to October keep a free last day before your flight home and check the national hurricane centre daily; airports close when a named storm approaches.
  • Caribbean ↗Wearing camouflage clothing is illegal for civilians in several islands, including Barbados, Antigua, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent, Grenada, Dominica, Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica; leave it at home, children's clothes included.
  • Aruba ↗Aruba sets its own entry rules as part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands: every air arrival completes the online ED card at edcardaruba.aw within 7 days before arrival and pays the US$20 sustainability fee there (aged 8+, once per calendar year — check).
  • Aruba ↗Flights to the US clear US immigration and customs at Aruba airport before boarding: arrive 3 hours early and have your ESTA, visa or US documents ready.
  • Aruba ↗Arikok National Park covers much of the north-east; some tracks need a high-clearance or 4x4 vehicle, so check before driving a standard rental car in.

Getting around

Rental car is the most practical option for exploring the island; taxis are available but add up. Many hotels offer free shuttles to Oranjestad. Walking along the Palm Beach strip is easy; crossing the road requires care (no traffic lights on some sections).

Watch out

Safety

Palm Beach is very safe for tourists; petty theft is rare but keep valuables in your hotel safe. The main risks are sunburn, dehydration and occasional rip currents. Drive carefully at night on unlit roads.
  • Sun exposure: the sun is strong year-round; use reef-safe sunscreen and reapply often.
  • Rip currents: rare on Palm Beach itself, but pay attention to flag warnings.
  • Hotel service charges: many resorts add 10–15% service; check your bill before tipping extra.
  • No traffic lights on some main roads: roundabouts are common; drive defensively.
