Vršac is a small Vojvodina wine town near the Romanian border, 84 km from Belgrade and 75 km from Timișoara. The compact centre takes an hour on foot; the draw is the hill above it, the island mountains behind it and the cellars around Gudurica. Most travellers pass through for a night, or stop between Belgrade and Timișoara.

Getting around

The centre is flat and walkable in about 20 minutes end to end. The castle hill is roughly an hour uphill on foot, so take a taxi (about €1.5–3 in town). Local buses are limited; a car helps for the wine villages and the monasteries.

Watch out

Safety

Vršac is a safe, well-lit small town; muggings are rare. Lock your rental, watch your pockets in the centre, and report losses at the local police station.
  • No train runs between Vršac and Timișoara (as of Jul 2025); the workaround is a taxi to Stamora Moravița, about €30, then a Romanian train.
  • Belgrade–Vršac buses cannot be booked on the Flixbus site; buy at the station or with the local operator.
  • Parking in marked zones needs a paper ticket from a kiosk or an SMS to 8131 with your full plate number, Mon–Fri 07:00–21:00 and Sat 07:00–14:00.
  • Cafés and bars are still smoky; ask for a table away from the bar if it bothers you.
