Yeongjong Island영종도
Treat Yeongjong as an airport island, not a destination: one night near Unseo for a long layover or an early flight, or a half-day beach run from Seoul.

- East Asia ↗Every border in East Asia is a full international border, Hong Kong and Macau included: an entry permission for one never covers the next.
- East Asia ↗Ferries between Korea, Japan and China cancel in rough seas and typhoons; keep a flight or a spare day behind every sea leg.
- South Korea ↗Check K-ETA and visa status on the official sites before you fly; the list of nationalities exempted from registering online changes year by year.
- South Korea ↗Google Maps gives poor walking and driving directions in Korea; use Naver Map or Kakao Map for routes.
- South Korea ↗Buy a T-money card (or use a phone-based transit pass) for subway and buses; it also pays at convenience stores and many taxis.
Yeongjong and Yongyu were once separate islands; Incheon International Airport was built on reclaimed land between them, and the AREX line and a free maglev now run across. Almost everyone transits straight to Seoul, but the west-coast beaches, the seafood market at Yeongjong Pier and the airport-town hotel strip make a workable overnight or a slow day out. Two nights is the ceiling unless you are here for a flight.

Arrive & move
Airports are listed under At a glance; this is how to move once you are in
Getting around
AREX runs through the west of the island (Unseo station, about 6 min and ₩1,000 from the airport). The Incheon Airport Maglev links Terminal 1 with Yongyu station at the western tip; it reopened in October 2025, is free, runs every 35 min from 10:00 to 17:00 and is closed on Mondays. Bus 202 loops the south and west coasts hourly (about ₩1,200), and buses 223 and 203 connect the airport with the island. Distances are short, so taxis work well.
See & do
Day-trips, door to door
Day-trips
Door to door: About 1 h by rail; 15 min by ferry from Wolmido
AREX to Incheon or Gyeyang, then metro Line 1; or the Wolmido car ferry to Yeongjong Pier
Chinatown, Jayang-dong and Wolmido are the mainland counterweight to the island.
Door to door: About 43 min express to Seoul Station
AREX express or all-stop train from Terminal 1 or 2
The default move: most travellers leave the island the same day they land.
Door to door: About 1–1.5 h
Bus 222 to Jamjindo, then the short ferry
Ferry timetables are thin; Silmi is walkable from Muuido only at low tide.
Door to door: About 2 h
AREX to Seoul, then Line 1 or KTX onward
Too far for a day from the island; do it from a Seoul base instead.
Eat & sleep
Which area to sleep in
Where to sleep
Areas, not hotels: pick the one that fits your arrival time and plans.
Airport Town Square (Unseo)
The practical base: near-identical transit hotels, restaurants, a Lotte Mart and Unseo station on the AREX line, 6 min from the airport.
Eurwangni Beach
Motels and seafood restaurants steps from the sand; best if you want the beach, not the airport. Quieter outside summer.
Terminal-side hotels
Grand Hyatt and the ibis Styles sit on the airport approach roads; pick these for a 6 am departure or a long connection.

Watch out
Safety
- Tides: at low tide the water pulls back into wide mudflats, so check the tide table before planning a swim.
- The maglev is free but slow and shut on Mondays; do not build a tight connection around it.
- Beach restaurants and motels thin out outside summer; some close or run short hours.
- Airport-town hotels are near-identical and priced for transit passengers: compare the free shuttle times before booking.
