Lima sits on I-75 between Toledo and Dayton, an hour from Dayton airport and about 1 h 30 min from Columbus. It is a small Rust Belt city of about 39,000 people with one genuinely good museum, a preserved steam locomotive and a burger chain that survives almost nowhere else. Treat it as a half-day or one-night stop on a road trip through West Central Ohio, not a destination in itself.

Getting around

You need a car. Downtown is a small grid around Town Square; Westgate and Eastgate are separate business districts 5 mi apart, and the airport is 5 mi southeast of the centre. The Rotary Riverwalk is a pedestrian and bike path from Heritage Park to Schoonover Park downtown. Check local bus coverage before relying on it.

Safety

Lima is a small city with typical US small-city crime: fine by day around the museum, courthouse and Westgate, less so on foot after dark in empty downtown and former industrial blocks. Drive between districts rather than walk.
  • Distances between downtown, Westgate and Eastgate are driving distances, not walking ones.
  • Winter ice on I-75 and US-30 is the main travel risk; plan around snow forecasts Dec–Feb.
  • Some downtown blocks and former industrial sites are empty after dark; stay in lit areas.
  • Most restaurants are chains; local options are limited and some close early.
