Bluffton is a small college town on I-75 between Findlay and Lima, founded in 1831 by Swiss and Irish settlers and still shaped by that heritage. Downtown and the Bluffton University campus are walkable in an afternoon; the draw is a quiet Main Street, a preserved Swiss homestead and a 160-acre nature preserve rather than a list of sights. Most travellers pass through on the interstate, so treat it as a half-day stop or a cheap overnight between Toledo and Dayton.

Getting around

Downtown and the university campus are walkable; edge destinations such as the nature preserve and Motter Metro Park need a car or bike. Some roads have bike lanes and the Lions Way Path is a dedicated hike-and-bike trail. I-75 runs through town, north to Findlay and south to Lima.

Safety

A quiet small town; the real risks are winter ice on I-75, deer on rural roads at dusk, and long gaps between services on the interstate. Violent crime is low.
  • Very limited lodging: one interstate motel, so book ahead or sleep in Findlay.
  • Most restaurants and shops sit on Main Street and close early; chain food is by the interstate.
  • Winter brings ice and lake-effect snow off the interstate; summer afternoons can be humid.
  • The Schumacher Homestead opens only in summer (Jun–Aug, Saturdays) — check before driving out.
