La Tremblade
Stay 2 nights: one for the oyster port and Ronce-les-Bains beaches, one for the Coubre forest and lighthouse. Skip if you want city sights.
La Tremblade is a small oyster port and beach town on the Arvert peninsula in Charente-Maritime, about 55 km from La Rochelle and 20 km from Royan. It splits in two: the working oyster harbour of La Grève and the pine-backed Atlantic beaches at Ronce-les-Bains and the Côte Sauvage. Two nights covers it; three if you add cycling or surfing.

No scheduled train: the station only runs the seasonal Train des Mouettes. Cara-bus lines 6 and 115 link Royan and nearby villages, and a free summer tourist train runs to Ronce-les-Bains and Port de La Grève. A car or bike is the practical choice; parking is free but fills in summer.

- Atlantic currents on the Côte Sauvage are strong: swim only between the flags at lifeguarded beaches, and watch children.
- Many restaurants and rentals close outside the Easter–September season; check before booking a winter trip.
