La Tremblade is a small oyster port and beach town on the Arvert peninsula in Charente-Maritime, about 55 km from La Rochelle and 20 km from Royan. It splits in two: the working oyster harbour of La Grève and the pine-backed Atlantic beaches at Ronce-les-Bains and the Côte Sauvage. Two nights covers it; three if you add cycling or surfing.

Get around
No scheduled train: the station only runs the seasonal Train des Mouettes. Cara-bus lines 6 and 115 link Royan and nearby villages, and a free summer tourist train runs to Ronce-les-Bains and Port de La Grève. A car or bike is the practical choice; parking is free but fills in summer.

- The nearest hospital is in Royan, about 20 km away; call 15 for medical emergencies.
A calm, low-crime resort town. The real risks are Atlantic currents on the Côte Sauvage, summer road traffic at Ronce-les-Bains, and tick bites in the Coubre forest: stick to flagged beaches and check for ticks after walks.
