Uşak
Give Uşak one night for the Lydian treasure museum and the old town; add a second only if you have a car for the canyons.
Uşak sits 240 km inland from the Aegean coast, so its climate and its mood are Anatolian rather than seaside. It was a weaving town whose Ushak rugs reached Europe centuries ago, and its archaeological museum holds the repatriated Lydian hoard. The centre is flat and walkable; the canyons, Roman ruins and Phrygian bridge in the countryside need a car.

- Türkiye (Turkey) ↗Check whether your passport is visa-exempt; if it is not, apply only at evisa.gov.tr — lookalike sites charge extra and some sell nothing.
- Türkiye (Turkey) ↗At mosques cover shoulders and knees, take shoes off at the door, and women carry a headscarf; stay out during prayer times.
- Türkiye (Turkey) ↗Taxis must run the taximeter; refuse flat quotes, or book through BiTaksi or Uber so the ride is logged.
- Türkiye (Turkey) ↗Carry lira in small notes for tea, markets, tips and toilets; prices move with inflation, so treat every printed price as dated.
- Türkiye (Turkey) ↗Do not take stones, coins or tiles from ancient sites, and export no antiques without a museum certificate; travellers have been detained at airport customs.

Getting around
The centre is flat and compact, so walk it: İsmet Paşa Caddesi runs north from the highway overpass and its pedestrianised northern half is the liveliest stretch. Public minibuses serve the suburbs but you are unlikely to need them. For Ulubey Canyon, Blaundus, Sebaste and Taşyaran Valley you want your own vehicle; by public transport each one eats a full day.

Watch out
Safety
- Outlying sites sit on dirt roads that turn slippery after rain: go in dry weather and check the surface before committing.
- Central parking is scarce and no-parking signs are widely ignored; try the side alleys instead of the main streets.
- Some smaller museums keep irregular hours and can be shut without notice: confirm before travelling out.
- Summer inland heat is real; carry water and start outdoor sites early.
