Uşak sits 240 km inland from the Aegean coast, so its climate and its mood are Anatolian rather than seaside. It was a weaving town whose Ushak rugs reached Europe centuries ago, and its archaeological museum holds the repatriated Lydian hoard. The centre is flat and walkable; the canyons, Roman ruins and Phrygian bridge in the countryside need a car.

Get around
The centre is flat and compact, so walk it: İsmet Paşa Caddesi runs north from the highway overpass and its pedestrianised northern half is the liveliest stretch. Public minibuses serve the suburbs but you are unlikely to need them. For Ulubey Canyon, Blaundus, Sebaste and Taşyaran Valley you want your own vehicle; by public transport each one eats a full day.
