Dublin, OhioDublin

Two nights is enough: one for Bridge Park and downtown Dublin, one for the Columbus Zoo. Skip it as a base unless you have a car.

Dublin is an upscale Columbus suburb about 20 miles (32 km) northwest of downtown, built around a small historic core on the Scioto River and the newer Bridge Park district on the opposite bank. It is a car-first place: the sights, the zoo and the golf are spread out, and COTA line 73 is the only practical bus link to Columbus. Come for the Irish Festival in summer, the Memorial Tournament in late May or June, or as a quieter, cheaper bed than downtown Columbus.

  • North America ↗Crossing between the US, Canada and Mexico by land needs your passport even on a day trip; rental cars need the company's written permission to cross, and most US and Canadian rental insurance stops at the Mexican border.
  • North America ↗Cannabis is legal in Canada and in many US states, but taking any amount across the US, Canadian or Mexican border is a federal crime — including edibles and vapes.
  • North America ↗The busiest US and Canadian national parks need timed-entry, campsite or lodge reservations in summer; release dates are months ahead.
  • United States ↗Check whether you need an ESTA (Visa Waiver Program) or a visa on the official CBP and State Department sites; apply only through esta.cbp.dhs.gov, not third-party sites, and allow time before you book.
  • United States ↗Several popular national parks use timed-entry or vehicle reservations in peak season; check each park's page on nps.gov and book on recreation.gov before fixing your dates.
  • United States ↗Medical care is very expensive for visitors; buy travel insurance with high medical cover before you fly.
  • United States ↗Tipping is expected: about 15–20% at sit-down restaurants and bars, and a tip for taxis, hotel staff and guides.

Getting around

A car is the practical default: US 33 and I-270 (the Columbus beltway) put the zoo, the malls and downtown Columbus within 10–25 min. COTA line 73 runs through Dublin to Northwest Columbus and Downtown Columbus; standard fare is $2, rush hour $2.75, day pass $4.50 (check current fares). Downtown Dublin and Bridge Park are walkable and linked by the Dublin Link pedestrian bridge over the Scioto. Rideshare is easy in the centre but thin after about 22:00 in the business-park areas.

Areas, not hotels: pick the one that fits your arrival time and plans.

Bridge Park

Newest hotels, walkable to restaurants and bars on Riverside Dr; best if you want to park once and walk at night.

Downtown Dublin / High St

Historic core by the Scioto River, walkable to the Dublin Link bridge, cafés and the library; limited hotel stock.

Tuttle Crossing / I-270

Chain hotels at lower rates, next to the Mall at Tuttle Crossing; you need a car for everything.

Emerald Parkway / Perimeter Dr

Business-park hotels with free parking and breakfast; quiet at weekends, 5–10 min drive from downtown Dublin.

Watch out

Safety

One of the safer Columbus suburbs; crime is not the issue. The real risks are highway driving on I-270, unlit park paths after dark, and summer heat at the zoo.
  • This is Dublin, Ohio, not Dublin, Ireland: double-check any booking you search by name.
  • Almost nothing is walkable outside downtown and Bridge Park; without a car you are limited to COTA line 73 and rideshare.
  • The Dublin Irish Festival and the Memorial Tournament fill every hotel in the area: book weeks ahead or stay in Columbus.
  • Summer afternoons hit 30 °C (86 °F)+ with humidity; plan the zoo and the parks for the morning.
  • Winter driving on I-270 is the real risk here, not crime: snow and ice squalls close lanes.
