Sewanee is a small Cumberland Plateau town built around the University of the South, roughly halfway between Nashville and Chattanooga. Almost everything visitors come for — pink-sandstone Gothic campus buildings, cliff-edge overlooks, hiking and camping on the university's 13,000-acre Domain — is free and open year-round. One night covers the town; two nights if you want a full hiking day.
