Provo Canyon is a road corridor through the Wasatch Range, not a gated park: US-189 runs from Provo and Orem up to Deer Creek Reservoir and on to Heber City, with free roadside stops the whole way. Bridal Veil Falls sits beside the highway with a short paved walk to the base, the Provo River Trail follows the canyon floor, and the Alpine Loop (US-92) climbs north past Sundance toward American Fork Canyon. The only routine charges are the Deer Creek State Park day-use fee and anything you buy at Sundance; winter storms can require chains on US-189 and close the Alpine Loop entirely.

What are the best hikes in Provo Canyon?

The Provo River Trail is the easiest — paved at the lower end and good for walking or biking. Stewart Falls from the Sundance area is the classic half-day hike at about 6 km round trip. Bridal Veil Falls is a short paved walk, and the Kyhv Peak overlooks give valley views with little effort.

When is the best time to visit Provo Canyon?

May, June, September and October. Late September and early October bring the autumn colour that the canyon is known for, and the Alpine Loop is usually still open. July and August are hot with afternoon storms; January and February can require chains on US-189.

Is the Alpine Loop open in winter?
