Williamstown, New JerseyWilliamstown
Skip as a base: Williamstown is a car-only South Jersey town with no rail and thin lodging. Use it as a 2–3 h stop between Philadelphia and Atlantic City.
Williamstown is the everyday name for Monroe Township, Gloucester County: a spread-out crossroads town on US 322 and Route 42, about 24 mi (39 km) southeast of Philadelphia and 14.5 mi (23 km) northwest of Hammonton. There is no train station and no walkable sight cluster, so a car is required and most visitors pass through on the way to the Jersey Shore or the Pine Barrens. Treat it as a half-day: a colonial house, two state wildlife areas, a golf course and diner food. Sleep here only if you need cheap roadside lodging on Route 42.

- North America ↗Crossing between the US, Canada and Mexico by land needs your passport even on a day trip; rental cars need the company's written permission to cross, and most US and Canadian rental insurance stops at the Mexican border.
- North America ↗Cannabis is legal in Canada and in many US states, but taking any amount across the US, Canadian or Mexican border is a federal crime — including edibles and vapes.
- North America ↗The busiest US and Canadian national parks need timed-entry, campsite or lodge reservations in summer; release dates are months ahead.
- United States ↗Check whether you need an ESTA (Visa Waiver Program) or a visa on the official CBP and State Department sites; apply only through esta.cbp.dhs.gov, not third-party sites, and allow time before you book.
- United States ↗Several popular national parks use timed-entry or vehicle reservations in peak season; check each park's page on nps.gov and book on recreation.gov before fixing your dates.
- United States ↗Medical care is very expensive for visitors; buy travel insurance with high medical cover before you fly.
- United States ↗Tipping is expected: about 15–20% at sit-down restaurants and bars, and a tip for taxis, hotel staff and guides.

Getting around
Drive. Streets meet at odd angles and New Brooklyn Road does not cross the town end to end, so use US 322, Main Street and Route 42 as your frame. NJ Transit buses run along US 322 and Main Street toward Philadelphia and Atlantic City, but service is infrequent and stops are unmarked in places: check the current timetable before relying on it. There is no train station in Williamstown.
