Base in Lanark for one night to see New Lanark and the Falls of Clyde; the town itself is a 2-hour walk, so don't give it more than a day.
Lanark is a small market town in Clydesdale, 28 miles southeast of Glasgow, and the practical base for New Lanark, the 18th-century mill village and UNESCO site two miles south. The town has a compact centre with a museum, a church and a few pubs; most travellers come for the mill, the Clyde Walkway and the Falls of Clyde, then move on. One night is enough unless you are walking the Clyde Walkway in stages.

Getting around
The town centre is small enough to walk. New Lanark is two miles south: walk it (about 40 min), take Stuarts Coach 135 (about 8 min, hourly), or a taxi (£6–8, 2026 estimate). Local buses converge on the Interchange next to the railway station. A car helps for Cartland Bridge, Cleghorn Glen and the Clyde Valley Woodlands.
