Batrounالبترون

Half a day to one night: walk the old town, see the Phoenician Seawall and eat fresh seafood. A stop between Tripoli and Beirut, not a base.

Batroun is one of the oldest cities in the world, first mentioned in 14th-century BC Amarna tablets. Today it is a compact coastal town 30 minutes from Tripoli, with a Phoenician seawall, Crusader-era churches and a small old town that rewards a slow walk. Most visitors spend half a day or one night.

Watch out

Safety

Lebanon has a volatile security situation. Read your own government travel advice before any trip. In Batroun itself, petty crime is low but cash and valuables should be kept out of sight.
  • Check your own government travel advice for Lebanon before planning any trip.
  • Cash is king: many small shops and restaurants do not accept cards. US dollars are widely accepted alongside Lebanese pounds.
  • The old town streets are narrow and uneven; wear comfortable shoes.
  • Alcohol is available in restaurants and bars but not in all areas; respect local customs.
