Kabak is a valley village on the Lycian coast, 20 km south of Ölüdeniz, where a narrow road drops through Faralya to a dead end above the beach. Officially part of Uzunyurt, it is a strip of pansiyons and camps on the upper road plus a beach settlement below. Come for walking, swimming and sleeping early; the road is the whole story of getting in and out.

Getting around

Walk. The lanes are dirt and hard on cars; the beach is 500 m below the car park on a steep track. Dolmuşes run the sealed road from Ölüdeniz but stop about 1 km short of the valley.

Watch out

Safety

Quiet and low-crime; the real risks are the valley road, unlit lanes after dark, sea urchins and rocks on the beach, and heat on the Lycian Way in July and August.
  • The road from Ölüdeniz is narrow with potholes: allow 40 min and avoid it after dark if you are not used to it.
  • Parking at the valley car park is charged informally with no receipt; agree the price before you leave the car.
  • Bring cash: the nearest ATMs and supermarkets are in Ölüdeniz and Fethiye.
  • Vodafone signal drops south of Faralya; Turkcell and Türk Telekom hold up better.
