Legian

Sleep in Legian for 2–3 nights if you want Kuta prices with a calmer beach; walk 10 min north to Seminyak for dinner, 15 min south to Kuta for nightlife.

Legian is a small beach strip wedged between Kuta and Seminyak, roughly from Jalan Melasti north to Jalan Double Six. It has the same surf, shops and bars as Kuta with less traffic and hassle, and mid-range hotels sit right on the sand. Most people use it as a beach base and walk or take a short taxi ride into the neighbouring areas for food and nightlife.

Getting around

Most of Legian is walkable: the beachfront path runs north–south between the hotels and the sand and is the easiest route to restaurants and bars. Taxis are plentiful; metered Blue Bird is the usual choice. Motorbike rental runs about Rp 50,000–80,000 per day. Jalan Legian, the main road, jams badly at peak times.

Watch out

Safety

Legian is a busy tourist strip and generally safe by day and night. The real risks are traffic on Jalan Legian, scooter accidents, beach rips, and petty theft of phones and bags left on the sand.
  • Jalan Legian traffic is heavy and chaotic; cross with care and avoid renting a scooter unless you are licensed and insured.
  • Beach vendors and touts are persistent but not aggressive; agree prices before you commit.
  • Strong currents and shore break at Legian Beach: swim between the red-and-yellow flags and watch for rips.
  • Bars on the Double Six strip can have unclear drink prices; ask the total before ordering rounds.
