Quirindi is a small Liverpool Plains service town on the Kamilaroi Highway, 65 km south-west of Tamworth and 20 km south of Werris Creek. It works as a one-night stop with a car: a couple of small museums, a lookout over the plains, and sunflower fields west of town in the blooming season. Without a car, the town is a rail stop and not much else.

Quirindi is a small country town and feels safe by day and evening. The real risks are long drives on rural roads at dusk — kangaroos and stock — plus summer heat and the lack of late-night services.
  • Trains from Sydney run once daily in each direction; book ahead and check the timetable before you plan the day.
  • Rail bookings are not made at Quirindi station — use the newsagency in George Street or book online.
  • Sunflower bloom timing and field access change year to year; ask at the visitor centre before driving out.
  • Summer days on the plains are hot and distances between towns are long; carry water.
