Puerto Morelos is a two-street fishing village about 20 km south of Cancún airport, built around a protected reef and a leaning lighthouse. Buildings are capped at three stories, so it stays low-rise and walkable end to end in about 15 minutes. It suits divers, snorkellers and anyone wanting a calm Caribbean base with Cancún and Playa del Carmen both within an hour.

The centre is walkable; taxis gather on the west side of the main square and bicycles can be rented in town. Agree the taxi price before getting in. Local buses run between the highway and the beach for a few pesos, and colectivos stop on Highway 307 for Cancún and Playa del Carmen.

Safety
- No bank in town, only ATMs; many places take US dollars but not cards — carry pesos.
- Snorkelling or diving the park reef without an accredited guide is not allowed; wardens can fine you.
- The walk from Highway 307 into town crosses mangrove and there are crocodiles near the road — use repellent and keep to the path.
