Romantic things to do in Prague

Prague rewards couples who split the day in two: an early walk while the city is empty, a slow afternoon, then the lit-up version after dark. Almost everything below is walkable from Old Town or Malá Strana, so you rarely need a taxi.

Two people can have a good romantic day in Prague for well under 1,500 CZK if you skip paid towers and cruises: the bridge, Kampa, Vyšehrad and Letná cost nothing. Add a tower, a boat and a concert and budget 1,500–2,500 CZK for two.

Opening hours shift by season, and several sights close earlier in winter when it gets dark around 16:30. Treat every time here as a check and confirm the day before, especially for cruises and concerts booked online.

Prague is compact and the romantic route is a walk: Old Town Square to Charles Bridge is about 10 minutes, the bridge to Malá Strana another 5, and Malá Strana up to Prague Castle roughly 20 minutes uphill. Comfortable shoes matter more than any ticket.

For Petřín, take tram or metro to Újezd and ride the funicular, or walk up through the gardens. For Vyšehrad, metro to Vyšehrad station puts you at the ramparts in a few minutes. Trams and the metro run overnight, so a late dinner does not strand you; buy tickets in the official app or from street machines and validate them.

Book river cruises and concerts online a day or two ahead in summer; the popular evening slots fill. Restaurant reservations help on Friday and Saturday nights, when cellar places near Old Town fill with both locals and visitors.

Pickpockets work the crowded stretch of Charles Bridge and the trams in the centre, so keep phones and wallets zipped in front pockets. Change money only at banks or use an ATM, and refuse any street offer of a better rate. If a bar hands you a menu without prices, walk out.

April to June and September to October give mild evenings and long light, which suits the bridge-and-sunset plan. July and August are warm but crowded, so start earlier. December is atmospheric with the Christmas markets, though it is cold and dark by late afternoon, which pushes the romantic hours indoors.

Winter is quiet and cheap outside the Christmas weeks, and a snowy Malá Strana is memorable, but check opening hours: some gardens and the Letná beer garden close for the season.
