Port Moody is a small waterfront city at the east end of Burrard Inlet, about 40–50 min from downtown Vancouver on the SkyTrain Millennium Line. It is mostly residential, with a compact strip of parks, a pier, a trail and four breweries near Moody Centre station. Hotel beds are scarce, so most travellers visit on a day trip and sleep in Coquitlam, Burnaby or Vancouver.

Getting around

SkyTrain Millennium Line has two stops in town: Moody Centre (closest to Rocky Point Park) and Inlet Centre (Newport Village). Buses 160, 179, 182 and 150 (summer only) cover the rest. St. John's Street is the main road in and out. Fares are zone-based on weekdays before 6:30 pm; evenings and weekends are one zone. Tap a contactless card or use a Compass Card; transfers run 90 minutes (120 on West Coast Express).

Watch out

Safety

A low-crime residential suburb; the real risks are trail and water ones. Sasamat and Buntzen lakes are cold, the log boom on Buntzen's north side marks where you cannot swim or boat, and cell coverage thins on the ridge trails.
  • Buntzen Lake parking fills by 11:00–noon on sunny weekends; no street parking nearby and illegally parked cars get towed.
  • Pajo's at Rocky Point is often closed in winter and keeps variable hours outside summer.
  • West Coast Express runs weekday commute direction only: west in the morning, east in the afternoon. No weekend service.
  • Wildfire smoke can cut visibility and air quality in Aug–Sep; check the air quality index before a hike.
