Overview
Papeete is the only real town on Tahiti and a base for a night or two, not a week. Everything a first visit needs is inside one square kilometre on the harbour, and most long-haul flights land at night, so the first bed matters more than the sights. Four small clusters cover it; Moorea, the lagoon and the other islands are the reason you came.

- Papeete is the town; Faa'a is the airport commune next to it, and Pape'ete is also the spelling of the commune. Moorea is a separate island reached by ferry, not a suburb.
